Jerry Goldsmith Tribute CD

A few years ago while attending a local CD show, I ran across this CD - The Society for the Preservation of Film Music (SPFM) Tribute to Jerry Goldsmith, whew... that's a mouthful. I had known about this particular CD but thought I would never actually see one.

The CD was produced specifically for the attendees at the 1993 career achievement award tribute/dinner. It was reported that there were only 500 produced for the event. This CD included score tracks from The Flim-Flam Man (1967), Take A Hard Ride (1975), Magic (1978) and Baby: Secret of the Lost Lengend (1984). At the time, these 4 scores had not made it on to CD. Which is why fans of Mr. Goldsmith were paying several hundreds of dollars for it. Of course, with highly sought after discs like this there will always be counterfeits. Read more about this over at Filmtracks

And you're probably thinking, do I have an original? Yes, I do - according to Filmtracks. The image here was scanned and shows the gold seal black, but it is indeed gold foil. The small label on the back is typed with serial number 111. And, if you click on the image you can make out (barely) the 20th Fox logo behind the label.

I was lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time. I picked this disc up for a mere $7.00 - in mint condition I might add. Not sure whether or not the seller knew what he had - obviously not.

Lost In Translation BAFTA Screener

This is a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) screener I got off eBay a couple of months ago. One major plus, is that it's sealed and in near mint condition. This is the first BAFTA DVD in my collection. I wasn't even aware that they had their own screeners.

Cinderella Man Academy Screener

This is the lastest addition to my collection and marks my first Academy screener for the 2005 year.

I usually get screeners after the award season is over and the production DVD's have been released - when things start to die down a bit. This particular one I got on eBay, which is becoming increasingly harder to find screener DVD's. Luckily, I live near Los Angeles and am able to find screeners at record/CD shows and swap meets.

DVD Signing - Frank Darabont

June 13, 2000 - When The Green Mile was released on DVD. Director Frank Darabont did an in-store DVD signing at Dave's Video in Los Angeles (which is no longer around). I was fortunate to have been there. As well as getting the Green Mile DVD signed I also brought my Shawshank Redemption to get signed. Mr. Darabont has to be one of the nicest guys I've ever met. He's a gracious person and is willing to talk to you even thought there's a line of people waiting. I think the signing had started at 7:00 and was scheduled to end 11:00. Frank was there well after midnight. It was a memorable experience.

AFI Life Achievement Award DVD Sets

Recently, I won this DVD set on eBay. This was given out to guests at the 2004 AFI Life Achievement Awards - A Tribute to Meryl Streep It includes 10 DVDs. Since I'm a HUGE collector of DVDs this was a great find. The limited availability of these surely makes them collectible. Oh, and it's also sealed.

Here is another set I found on eBay. This was given out to guests at the 2003 AFI Life Achievement Awards - A Tribute to Robert DeNiro It includes 10 DVDs.
